Exceptions from the entrance examination

 

Certain groups of persons are exempt from the entrance examination for bachelor programmes. 

To proove that you are exempt (except if you studied the same programme before or are a mobility student)

  • register in u:space
  • send the proofs and your school leaving certificate via e-mail to aufnahmeverfahren@univie.ac.at
  • follow the instructions you receive

Previous Studies

You have been admitted at the University of Vienna to a bachelor programme which now has an entrance examination previously and have paused that programme? If you want to take up the same programme again you do not have to participate in the entrance examination again. You can get admitted at the Admission Office until the end of the admission period of every semester. 

Attention: This regulation is not valid for the bachelor programme psychology! 

Register in u:space and write an e-mail to bachelor.zulassung@univie.ac.at during the admission period. Please attach a scanned ID.

Exchange Students

Students you come to the University of Vienna within the framework of a transnational EU, state or university mobility programme for a period of a maximum of 2 semesters do not have to participate in the entrance examination for bachelor programmes.

Incoming Students of the following mobility programmes are exempt: 

- Erasmus+
- Non-EU Student Exchange Programme (formerly Joint Study)
- CEEPUS

Students of a teacher accreditation programme

If you are currently studying a teacher accreditation programme for secondary schools at a recognized EU/EEU institution of post-secondary education or have completed a degree in that discipline, you do not have to participate in the entrance examination for teacher accreditation programmes.

To prove the exception please show a confirmation of registration of your university/college or your diploma of completion when you come here for the personal enrolment. 

You are also exempt from participating in the entrance examination if: 

- you have paused the teacher accreditation programme at the University of Vienna and want to continue it now,
- you want to change the teaching subjects,
- you want to submit yourself to the current curriculum or
- are submitted to the current curriculum by the office (e.g. when the old curriculum expires).

Active teachers without completed teacher accreditation

Persons who have not completed the teacher accreditation for secondary schools but have completed another degree and are now teaching at a school within the EU/EEA do not have to participate in the entrance examination for teacher accreditation programmes. 

As proof you need an official confirmation from the headmaster of the school you teach at.

Example: you have completed a bachelor degree in physics (not the teaching subject) and now work as a teacher for physics at a secondary school.

Participation in an entrance exam for teacher accreditations at another university in Austria

Persons who have already participated successfully in an entrance examination for teacher accreditation for secondary schools at another Austrian university or university college of teacher education do not have to participate in the entrance exam for teacher accreditations at the University of Vienna for the same academic year again. 

This is also valid for those persons who have participated in the entrance exams of the following universities and want to combine their teaching subject at the art/music university with one at the University of Vienna: 

  • University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna: Music education 
  • University of Applied Arts Vienna Wien: Art and Communication Practices (Fine Arts) Design, Architecture and Environment (Design and Technology)
  • Textiles – free and contextual artistic practice and material culture (textile design)

  • Academy of Fine Arts Vienna: Art and Education (Art Education)
  • Design and Context (Technical Crafts)
    Fashions and Styles (Textile Craft/Textile Design)

If one of your teaching subjects is offered by the above mentioned universities, please complete the enrolment at this university first and only afterwards do the registration via u:space and go to the Admission Office at the University of Vienna to finish the enrolment for the second teaching subject. 

Apart from the documents required for admission you also have to bring and show the student record sheet (Studienblatt) or confirmation of enrolment (Studienbestätigung) of your other university.
