German level C1 from wintersemester 2018/19 onwards

For the admission to degree programmes, the level C1 in German (according to CEFR) is required.

The University of Vienna and other universities in Vienna reacted on beginners' problems in their student every day life, caused by lacking knowledge of German.

From winter semester 2018/19 onwards you will have to prove German skills on level C1 in order to be admitted to a degree programme that is instructed in German.

This also applies if you already have received your admission letter from the University of Vienna, but have not yet been admitted (e.g. because you are attending a course at VWU or have not yet been able/prepared to start with your degree programme).

Please note the following regulation which has been in effect since summer 2017: If you have ever registered for a German course at the Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU), you will have to pass the supplementary examination in German (Ergänzungsprüfung Deutsch, EPD) at VWU. In this case, other German certificates cannot be accepted - neither by the University of Vienna nor by MA 35 (in case you need a residence permit).
