Admission to a bachelor/diploma programme with proficiency in German

Your secondary school leaving certificate and your citizenship are from a non-EU/EEA country? You have at least B2 level in German and want to study a bachelor or diploma programme without an entrance examination?

You apply for admission online via u:space during the general admission period, wait for the admission letter and then complete your admission personally in the Admission Office.

Please note:

  • At the University of Vienna you may only study the same degree programme that you are allowed to study in the country where you finished secondary school/a degree programme (a special entrance qualification or "admission statement" is needed).
  • It is impossible to apply for admission after the deadline. No exceptions are granted!
  • Due to the processing time for your application for admission at the University of Vienna and the processing time for your visa application at the Austrian embassy or consulate, you might not be able to finish the admission procedure for the semester you applied for.
  • The admission letter does not expire, but remains permanently valid. It is, however, subject to changes in legal conditions (i.e. the introduction of an entrance examination for the degree programme of your choice).

University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities

Please note the early registration deadlines for the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU). If you have to participate in the VWU, you first register there and then complete the admission procedure at the University of Vienna within the general admission period.

Your steps in the admission procedure

Step 1: Preparation of required documents

Scan all required documents (in high resolution) and create PDF files. All pages of one document as well as its legalisation and/or translation have to be merged into one single PDF file by means of an online tool of your choice (i.e. school leaving certificate + legalisation + translation, special entrance qualification for university studies + translation, etc.). All your files have to be easily readable. Please check the quality of your files before uploading them!

Step 2: Application for admission via u:space

Register in u:space during the general admission period and activate your u:account. You will need this account during your studies at the University of Vienna.

Log in to u:space, select the degree programme of your choice and upload the required documents as separate PDF files. Then click on "submit application."

The Admission Office can only process your application if the status in u:space is "submitted".

Step 3: Waiting for your admission letter

The Admission Office needs at least 12 weeks to process your application. Any missing or formally incorrect document will prolong the processing time and lead to a later admission. Due to administrative reasons it is not possible to inform you about the status of your application.

Your admission letter will be sent to the e-mail address you provided in u:space.

Step 4: Personal admission

In your admission letter, you find information on whether you have to take supplementary examinations (Mathematics, English or History/Geography) at the VWU (cooperation partners, costs, deadlines) before your can begin your degree programme.

Please read the instructions you receive together with your admission letter carefully.

As your identity has to be verified, you have to complete the admission procedure personally at the Admission Office. Representation by third parties is not possible!

You are admitted as soon as the prescribed tuition fee/students' union fee is registered as paid.

What comes next?

As soon as your fee is registered as paid in u:space (Financial Matters > Tuition Fee/Students' Union Fee), you can print your student documents (i.e. student record sheet and confirmation of enrolment) by clicking on Personal Matters > My Documents.

As a non-degree student (while participating in the Preparation Programme - VWU) you may only attend courses and pass exams at the VWU, which means you cannot start with your degree programme yet.

Once you are enrolled as a degree student, you can plan your semester and register for courses. The respective course registration periods can be found in u:find and u:space.
