Application with a school leaving certificate with citizenship from an EU/EEA country and proficiency in German

Your school leaving certificate and your citizenship are from an EU/EEA country, you have knowledge of German at B2 level or higher and want to study a bachelor programme with entrance examination?

In the personal enrolment for the degree programme you then have to prove German proficiency at C1 level (or higher).

 Required documents

You need the following documents as separate JPEG or PNG files:

  • your passport or personal ID card
  • a passport photograph 

Additionally, you need the following documents as seperate PDF files:

  • your original secondary school leaving certificate (all pages!)
    • and a translation by a court sworn translator, if it was not issued in German or English (diploma and translation in one PDF)
  • your proof of German proficiency at level C1 or higher (not needed if the school leaving certificate has been issued in a German speaking country)

Winter semester 2018/19:

Registration period

  • (International) Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Business Informatics: 3 April until 15 May 2018
  • other programmes with entrance examination: 3 April until 16 July 2018

Admission period: 

  • (International) Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Business Informatics as well as Nutrional Science and Mass Media and Communication Science: after the announcement of the results until 5 September 2018
  • other programmes with entrance examination: after the announcement of the results until 30 November 2018

Summer semester 2019:

Registration period:

  • registration not possible

Admission period:

  • only if you participated successfully in the entrance examination 2018: 7 January until 5 February 2019

Your steps in the admission procedure


Step 1: Preparation of required documents

Scan all required documents (in high resolution) and create PDF files. Your secondary school leaving certificate and its translation have to be merged into one single PDF file by means of an online tool of your choice. All your files have to be easily readable. Please check the quality of your files before uploading them!


Step 2: Registration and application for admission to a degree programme

Register in u:space during the application period and activate your u:account. You will need this account during your studies at the University of Vienna.

Log in to u:space, choose the degree programme of your choice and upload the required documents as separate PDF files.

If you do not have a diploma to prove your proficiency in German at C1 level you should enter the date when you are going to have it in the section „German proficiency“ and do not upload a document there. Please read the info about proficiency in German carefully and decide accordingly what to do. 

Then click "Pay and submit". Pay the examination fee of Euro 50 via credit card or eps online payment (only possible if you have an Austrian bank account).

As soon as the status of your application is “submitted” in u:space under "My applications" the application has reached the University of Vienna and you are registered to participate in the entrance examination. This status does not change anymore!

You will receive a confirmation of registration via e-mail. You will receive further information necessary for the entrance examination at the e-mail address saved in your u:space registration. Please check the spam folder of your mailbox frequently and add the e-mail address of the University of Vienna to your address book, so you do not miss any important information.

Continue with the remaining steps of the entrance examination.


Step 3: Personal admission to the degree programme

A few days after the entrance exam you will be notified by e-mail if you have been successful. Without exception the admission is possible only if you participated successfully in the entrance examination and also fulfil the general admission requirements for a bachelor programme at the University of Vienna.

If you have been successful please go to the Admission Office during the admission period with the above mentioned documents in original or notarised copy (opening hours).

You have to do this personally, as your identity has to be verified. Representation by third parties is not possible!


Step 4: Payment of the tuition fee/students' union fee

You are admitted to a degree programme as soon as the prescribed fee is registered as paid. You may pay with your ATM card (Maestro card) when completing the admission procedure at the Admission Office. 


What comes next?

As soon as your fee is registered as paid in u:space (Financial Matters > Tuition fee/students' union fee), you can print your student documents (i.e. student record sheet and confirmation of enrolment) by clicking on Personal Matters > My Documents. You can also validate your student ID, the u:card.

After the admission you can plan your semester and register for courses. The respective course registration periods can be found in u:find and u:space.
