German knowledge level A2

 

From summer semester 2019 onwards, a proof of German knowledge at level A2 is required when applying for degree programmes held in German.

Only if you already have a proof of German knowledge at level A2, you will be able to participate in a German course of the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities.

 

Which kinds of proof are accepted?

Only the following certificates and proofs are accepted:

Proofs A2

  • School-leaving certificate from a school where the language of instruction is German and all exams are carried out in German (This applies also for Austrian or German schools abroad)
  • Graduation in the subject German at a school of an EU/EEA country
  • Graduation in the subject German in an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
  • Graduation from a study programme of at least 2 years at a recognised post-secondary educational institution where the teaching and examination language is German

These types of proof are valid for an unlimited time.

Certificates A2

  • Österreichisches Sprachdiplom – A2 (ÖSD Zertifikat A2, ZA2)
  • Goethe Institut – Goethe Zertifikat A2
  • telc Deutsch - A2
  • Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz Stufe I - DSD I
  • Österreichischer Integrationsfonds (ÖIF) - ÖIF Test (A2)
  • Language Center of the University of Vienna - successfully passed exam of level A2

The certificate must not be older than two years (from the exam date).
